Why bank statements slow down the month-end close
A different layout at every bank
Each bank has its own columns and debit and credit conventions, and layouts change over time. Accounts at four banks mean four formats to reshape.
PDFs, Excel exports and scans
Internet banking gives you a PDF or an Excel export; older or stamped statements often arrive as scanned PDFs.
VND and foreign-currency accounts
VND operating accounts sit beside USD and other foreign-currency accounts, and their amounts must never be added together.
Close, consolidation and audit
The same statements are retyped or reshaped every month before they reach the ledger, the group reporting pack or the auditors.
Balance check
Every transaction checked against the running balance.
Accuracy here means detection, not guesswork. For each row Tabeno takes the previous balance, adds the credit, subtracts the debit and compares the result with the balance the bank printed.
- The check names the exact rows that do not reconcile. A figure is never adjusted to make the totals agree.
- A statement whose rows do not reconcile is not delivered, and you are not charged for it.
- A statement that prints no running balance is delivered and charged, marked as unverified, so you know its rows could not be checked.

Last row: an example of a misread digit, not part of the sample. The check catches it; the number is never quietly "fixed", and the statement is not delivered or charged.

Currencies kept apart
The currency printed on the statement is used. If none is printed, you declare it: VND, USD, EUR, JPY, KRW, CNY, SGD, AUD, GBP, HKD, THB, TWD, CHF, CAD. Amounts in different currencies are never summed together.

Do you translate the transaction descriptions?
No. Descriptions are kept exactly as the bank printed them, usually in Vietnamese, so they match the bank’s own record. The Excel column headers are in Vietnamese today: Ngày (Date), Diễn giải (Description), Ghi nợ (Debit), Ghi có (Credit), Số tiền (Amount), Số dư (Balance) and Kiểm tra (Balance check), plus Loại tiền (Currency) when one file holds more than one currency. The JSON field names are in English.
Which currencies are supported?
Tabeno uses the currency printed on the statement. If the statement does not print one, you declare it when you upload: VND, USD, EUR, JPY, KRW, CNY, SGD, AUD, GBP, HKD, THB, TWD, CHF, CAD. Amounts in different currencies are never summed together.
What if a statement does not balance?
Every transaction is checked against the running balance, and the check finds the exact rows that do not reconcile. A statement with such rows is not delivered, nothing is adjusted to make it agree, and you are not charged. A statement that prints no running balance is delivered and charged, marked as unverified, because its rows have nothing to be checked against.
Can you read scanned statements?
Yes, for the 14 banks with scanned PDF support, marked on the bank list. A scan passes the same balance check as a digital statement: if its rows do not reconcile, it is not delivered, and you are not charged. A scan that needs an extra check can take a few hours. You can leave the page; the result will be under Documents in the dashboard. You are charged only when it is delivered.
How do we pay?
Top up a prepaid VND balance by VietQR bank transfer, from 10,000 ₫. Each page is charged from that balance: 600 ₫ for a bank statement page, 300 ₫ for a PDF table page. There is no subscription and no card payment. The first 10 pages are free after you verify your email.
